What are the biggest challenges facing the profession?

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I believe we are our own biggest challenge. As CRNAs we are passionate, driven individuals who would do anything for our patients. But when it comes to advocating for our profession, we often fall short. With a NY membership nearing 2,000 CRNAs and RRNAs, we could be unstoppable if every member donated $100, called their local legislator, or engaged in their institutions management.

What experiences, ideas, connection or resources do you have that would allow you to help with those challenges?

As an organization, we need to engage the membership and empower them. Continue to provide resources to members via the board, committees, website, and management team.

Name one skill or strength you possess that is unmatched by your colleagues or peers

I don’t have any unique strengths that stand me out from my peers. I am simply tired of other people trying to dictate what I can and cannot do. I want to be the one who decides that!

What do you love about being a CRNA? What drew you to the profession?

I love the level of autonomy I receive and the critical thinking skills required to care for my patients. I love that every day is different because no two patients or cases are the same.

Please provide at least one idea you believe will engage or involve members to advance NYSANA’s mission.
