GRC Advocacy Fellow

Help advance the CRNA profession in New York while developing hands-on experience in legislative advocacy. The GRC Advocacy Fellow will work closely with GRC Chair Sean McGarry, NYSANA leadership and the association’s lobbyist to support NYSANA’s government relations priorities.

This is a more active role than general GRC committee participation. The Fellow may participate in meetings with legislators and other stakeholders, help prepare for legislative outreach, develop relationships with CRNAs and policymakers across the state, assist with advocacy events and member engagement, and learn how NYSANA develops and executes its legislative strategy.

We’re looking for: A CRNA who is interested in advocacy, comfortable building relationships and willing to learn the legislative process. Prior government relations experience is not required. Strong communication skills, reliability and an interest in taking on increasing responsibility are important. Proximity to Albany is helpful.

Estimated commitment: Approximately 5 to 8 hours per month on average, with additional time during the legislative session from January through May. Legislative meetings are generally held during business hours, while fundraising and other political events may take place in the evening, so some flexibility in your schedule is helpful.

Leadership development: This role is designed to provide significant hands-on experience and mentorship in CRNA advocacy. As NYSANA continues to develop its advocacy infrastructure, the experience could help prepare the Fellow for future volunteer or professional advocacy leadership opportunities.
