DNP & PhD Research Surveys

Each year, NYSANA members support DNP research by answering survey questions.

Attitudes Toward IO Access Among Anesthesia Providers

The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project is to explore factors influencing anesthesia providers' knowledge, attitudes, and clinical decision-making regarding intraosseous (IO) access utilization for patients with difficult venous access (DVA) in perioperative settings within hospitals across New York State. The aim is to identify barriers preventing routine IO use and to develop evidence-based recommendations enhancing anesthesia provider competence, optimizing vascular access, and improving patient outcomes. Objectives include conducting a literature review to identify existing evidence on IO utilization; developing and distributing a targeted survey to anesthesia providers to assess perceptions, barriers, and knowledge gaps; analyzing survey responses to determine key themes and actionable insights; presenting these findings and recommendations to perioperative stakeholders; and disseminating project results through formal presentations and evidence-based written guidelines to promote integration of IO access into anesthesia practice.
